Dear Pay-It-Forward House Supporter,
Since hearing the news that our primary hospital partner, Kindred – Sycamore, has filed an intent to close, the Board of Directors and Staff of Pay-It-Forward House have had much to discuss. While a final closure date for Kindred – Sycamore has not yet been released, we have come to the difficult decision to “close our doors” along with the hospital.
Pay-It-Forward House was founded in response to Kindred – Sycamore’s
unique patient population, with loved ones often traveling several hours or more to
support their patient. While we do support Northwestern Medicine’s Kishwaukee
Hospital and Cancer Center, we get significantly fewer referrals from these facilities, as
patients tend to be coming in from nearby towns and don’t need accommodations. It
would not be fiscally responsible to continue operating for such a small number of
guests, as much as we wish we could help everyone.
We expect Kindred – Sycamore to be closed no later than April 30, when their current
lease expires, and will continue to support patients and guests until then, while
preparing for the dissolution of the Pay-It-Forward House.
Our 20th anniversary celebration, on Tuesday, March 4th, from 4:30-7:30pm, at the
DeKalb County Community Foundation building, will double as a thank-you and farewell
to the community and all our supporters. We hope you’ll be able to join us, as we have
plenty to celebrate. We’d love the opportunity to thank each of you in person for all
your support. Pay-It-Forward House has been a true community endeavor. Please RSVP
